In 2022, I moved to the mountains and invested in a home studio to immerse myself in a consistent, creative practice with clay. My journey with ceramics began in 2017 through recreational classes and evolved as I created pieces during my time abroad in Mexico.
Embracing solitude in Northern Arizona deepened my connection to clay, where organic shapes and simple glazing techniques have come to characterize my work. As a yoga and meditation practitioner, I approach ceramics with a somatic and mindfulness lens, viewing the process as a two-way conversation. Rather than imposing form, I let the clay guide me, resulting in pieces that often feel vaguely anatomical and rooted in the natural world.
My sculptural work explores the tension between the uncanny and the elegant, challenging traditional notions of functionality while sparking emotional and intellectual curiosity in the viewer. This exploration culminated in October 2024, when I exhibited a series of pieces at Sesshin Art Gallery. The show included a Q&A, allowing me to share the emotional depths of my creative process with an engaged audience.
Over the past two years, I’ve offered ceramic workshops, guiding participants through a somatic exploration of clay. These workshops provide a space for individuals to connect with their creative selves, often uncovering personal insights and inspiration through their "conversation" with the material. I also teach hand-building techniques like coil building and sculpture.
As I continue my artistic journey, my aim is to collaborate with artists and designers to create evocative work that sparks curiosity and dialogue about the human experience. My hope is to expand on my artistic process, crafting pieces that honor organic forms and invite moments of introspection.
